The GTC's Mission
The Gasification Technologies Council (GTC) was created in 1995 to promote a better understanding of the role Gasification can play in providing the power, chemical and refining industries with economically competitive technology options to produce electricity, fuels and chemicals in an environmentally superior manner.

The Council represents companies involved in the development and licensing of Gasification technologies as well as engineering, construction, manufacture of equipment and production of synthesis gas by Gasification from coal, petroleum coke, heavy oils, and other carbon-containing materials.

    • October 6: Conference convenes, 9:00 a.m.
    • October 8: Conference adjourns, 5:00 p.m.

The 2008 Gasification Technologies Conference will be held October 5-8 at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington, DC.
The Gasification Process
Gasification offers the cleanest, most efficient method available to produce synthesis gas from low or negative-value carbon-based feedstocks such as coal, petroleum coke, high sulfur fuel oil or materials that would otherwise be disposed as waste. The gas can be used in place of natural gas to generate electricity, or as a basic raw material to produce chemicals and liquid fuels.

As gasification gains increasing commercial acceptance, the Gasification Technologies Council feels it is important that potential users of the technology, as well as persons involved in public policy decisions that may affect gasification-based facilities, understand its basic characteristics, applications and benefits.

Toward that end we are providing material on this site to explain in non-technical terms how the technology works, the worldwide scope of the gasification industry, and the environmental and economic benefits it offers.

This site also provides an extensive library of papers addressing gasification-related issues as well as papers and presentations from previous Gasification Technologies Conferences. The news section provides visitors with current information on these important technologies.

We welcome your questions or comments.
