GTC Challenges FutureGen Shift from Gasification to Oxy-Combustion
The Gasification Technologies Council has sent a letter to Secretary of Energy Steven Chu questioning the department’s decision to restructure the proposed FutureGen Project in Mattoon, IL from a gasification-based, to an oxycombustion-based, plant.

Director James Childress questioned the Department’s decision “to abruptly
shift course for the proposed FutureGen project from commercially proven
gasification to a smaller plant based on oxycombustion, a technology which has
never been used on a commercial scale anywhere in the world.”
